Claims Help basics

A claim is how you turn a policy into a payment, and how you handle it shapes the outcome. The same principles apply across auto, home, health, and life.

Document early and often. Photos, receipts, and written notes are your evidence. Report promptly — most policies require timely notice. Read your policy so you know your coverage, deductible, and the deadlines that apply.

A claims adjuster investigates and estimates your loss. You can disagree, provide your own estimates, and ask for a re-inspection. If a claim is denied, the denial letter explains why and how to appeal.

For most disputes your state department of insurance can help. For complex or high-value disputes, a public adjuster or attorney may be worth it.
